A 3D proggy course with Ali Rhind

The thick soft pile of ‘proggy’ lends itself to working over curves and contours. It is also wonderful to sit on.
This course is for those with some experience. We will design templates and patterns for a small sculptural piece, simple seating or a chair cover. Emphasis will be on the use of colour and movement and help and advice will be given about practical finishing/ fitting. Please bring your own recycled woolen materials and your own frame if you have one.

Working on to a base of lovely vintage quilting you will collage fabrics and embellish with stitch, buttons and beads to make a piece which can be framed or hung directly on the wall ( Mandy will show you how). An opportunity to explore a unique heat sensitive process that will allow you to transfer your personalised liquid designs onto fabric, using historical geometric and floral pattern as a source of inspiration. Jayne will provide a selection of fabrics, small scraps of vintage prints and lace, to help create a hand manipulated fabric base, which can then be over printed with your own hand drawn design. Through the use of sublimation dyes, you can create a hand-painted watercolour effect on fabric, you will learn some basic mark making and colour mixing techniques, and how to use stencils/flat objects to act as resists to your artwork, creating texture and pattern. Price includes most materials.

Have you always wished to be able to design beautiful jumpers for yourself? This structured course will provide you with loads of ways to generate designs and patterns for a simple jumper.
The sea, the beach and the creatures that inhabit these places provide endless possibilities for design and will give us a starting point for choice of colour, texture, pattern, and stitch. Initially Jane will show you ways to design on paper using coloured magazine pictures and photographs then you will select yarns and stitches to compliment your designs and knit some trial swatches. These swatches will then be used to draw up a unique pattern for a jumper just for you. There will be a follow up meeting to discuss the results of your knitting project at a later date.
